Patient’s charity golf day ‘putts’ thousands towards cancer units

A patient with stage-four liver and bowel cancer has raised almost £9,000 for Southend hospital’s cancer units, to thank staff who have helped him and his family.

Craig Kenrick, from Thundersley, has had four cancer surgeries at Southend Hospital and received chemotherapy for six months since he was diagnosed in 2022.

Wanting to give something back for the care he has received, Craig and his friend Mike organised a charity golf day to raise money for the hospital’s stoma care and chemotherapy units.

The father of two only had good things to say about his care at Southend Hospital. He said: “My family’s world was turned upside down when we received the shocking news of my cancer diagnosis. The hospital teams were there to support us, I can’t fault a single thing those fantastic teams do for patients and families in similar situations to mine.”

Kayley Donovan, Community Fundraising Manager, said: “We are so grateful to Craig. Nothing has stopped him from staying focused on his family and health, whilst also helping others by raising such an amazing amount of money that will benefit our Chemotherapy and Stoma Care units.”
