Three Peaks challenge raises over £30,000 for Broomfield’s Emergency Department

Our dedicated team of 14 fundraisers – including four doctors from Broomfield Hospital, successfully completed the National Three Peaks Challenge in September. Their sole mission: to raise funds for an additional ultrasound scanner for Broomfield Hospital’s Emergency Department.

The team tackled the highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike), and Wales (Snowdon), with an aim to climb all three within 36 hours. Despite facing torrential rain, high winds, sleet, snow, and poor visibility, they achieved their goal in an impressive 35 hours and just 1 minute.

The goal of raising £30,000 to fund an additional ultrasound scanner for Broomfield Hospital’s Emergency Department has not only been met but exceeded, with the team raising over £34,000.

Dr Ajay Thomas, one of the hikers and Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Broomfield Hospital, praised the team and the community’s support: “I am humbled by the fact that 742 people contributed to our fundraising effort, allowing us to raise enough to fully cover the cost of an additional ultrasound machine. This will benefit thousands of patients in the years to come.”

On behalf of Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity, Clair Grayston Senior Fundraising Manager, said: “We are all so incredibly proud of the entire team that took on the Three Peaks Fundraiser.

“Having seen footage of the team’s challenge, their efforts were truly outstanding in some of the most difficult weathers and toughest of terrains. We are incredibly thankful to everyone for their hard work in training, fundraising, and completing the challenge.”

The successful completion of this challenge highlights the power of teamwork, determination, and the generosity of the community in making a lasting impact on patient care at Broomfield Hospital.
