Local heroes step up to raise £30,000 for Broomfield Hospital
A group of 14 dedicated individuals including doctors from Broomfield Hospital, a pilot, and professionals from the technology sector are currently getting set to take on the National Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for Broomfield Hospital’s Emergency Department.
Their self-funded challenge will see them climb the highest peaks in Scotland, England, and Wales—Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon—within 36 hours. The challenge involves a total walking distance of 23 miles and a total ascent of 3,064 meters, equivalent to twice the ascent of the Yorkshire Three Peaks.
Their ambitious goal is to raise £30,000 to fund an additional ultrasound scanner for Broomfield Hospital’s Emergency Department. This vital piece of equipment will enhance the team’s ability to continuously improve patient outcomes and experiences.
Dr. Ajay Thomas, Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Broomfield Hospital, emphasised the growing demand on their services, with annual patient numbers nearly doubling since 2010. “The addition of another ultrasound scanner will greatly benefit both our staff and patients. We are immensely grateful for the community’s support in helping us provide even better care.
“The enthusiasm, encouragement, and generous support we are all receiving has made it possible for our team to raise over £11,000 already. With just a few weeks remaining until our Three Peaks Challenge, the team are training well and focused on doing our best to achieve our goal of reaching £30,000.”
