League of Friends support brings vital equipment to Basildon Hospital

Basildon Hospital has received a generous funding boost from the voluntary group League of Friends, allowing the purchase of crucial new equipment for the Emergency Department and our children’s wards.

The League of Friends, who support the hospital through fundraising efforts and their popular tea bar in the Outpatients Department, have recently funded more than £11,800 in equipment requests.

The Emergency Department has benefited from £4,465 of funding for an additional CSM monitor. These portable devices are essential for clinical teams to monitor patients’ vital observations and are a key item used in delivering high-quality emergency care. With ever-rising patient numbers, the additional monitor will support both care delivery and staff wellbeing.

Clare Turner, Emergency Department Matron, said: “The additional monitor from the League of Friends is appreciated by us all so much. As an extremely busy unit seeing more patients than ever before, an additional vital piece of equipment makes a real difference to patients ensuring that our team can monitor, care, and provide treatment more efficiently.”

In the children’s wards, £7,340 has funded three parent beds and two recliner chairs. These ‘above and beyond NHS funding’ items allow parents to stay comfortably by their child’s side during hospital stays.

Children’s ward manager Sandra Brennan said “These beds are invaluable for parents who will understandably want to stay close to their child but are also exhausted themselves. Parents that have already made use of the beds have commented on how comfortable they were.”

Clair Grayston, Senior Charity Manager for Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity, added: “We are so grateful to the League of Friends for their ongoing support of our charity and Basildon Hospital. Their generosity goes a long way in benefiting our patients, their families and staff.”
