Primary school children raise thousands for Southend Hospital

A primary school in Westcliff has donated £5,650 to Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity following fundraising activity taken on by the school’s pupils.

Following an assembly visit from the charity team and their mascot, Buddy Bear, Earls Hall Primary School’s student council (made up of 18 children between the ages of 5 and 12) voted their local hospital as their charity of the year beneficiary. Their decision led to a donation of proceeds from the school’s Economic wellbeing fair as well as a sponsored obstacle course. Both events highlighted the generosity of the school’s community of staff, pupils, and their families.

Headteacher Mr Badcock said: “We are incredibly proud of our students’ commitment to our local NHS hospitals and their show of charitable spirit. Our school councillors (lead by Mrs Heard and Mrs Geach) put a lot of effort into planning the two events, both of which were a huge success.

“Many of our students will have been born at Southend Hospital or have received some form of care from the team there, it was a privilege to support the staff and patients with our fundraising activity.”

Kayley Donovan, Community Fundraising Manager for the charity said: “Our team are always excited to work with local schools. We find that school students so often have a natural flair for fundraising and the extremely generous children from Earls Hall School were no exception.

“We’ve loved working with the school, and it’s been an honour to have met with the children to share the role of our charity within their community.”
