Local angling group has netted over £34,000 for Southend Hospital cancer patients

World Cancer Day is February 4, and over the last 11 years members of the Prittlewell and District Angling Society (PADAS) have reeled in tens of thousands of pounds for cancer services at Southend Hospital.

Their latest haul was presented in the form a £1,230 cheque tin support of oncology services at Southend.

PADAS said: “We hold regular charity fishing matches, which is a tradition started in 2015 by former member Paul Rashbrook, after losing his mum, Dianne, and later his father‑in‑law, Duncan, to cancer. Although Paul has since moved away, we’ve proudly continued the fundraising in his honour as everyone knows someone impacted by cancer and Southend Hospital do such great work.”

Clair Dade, our Fundraising coordinator for the charity, praised the group’s long‑standing commitment, she said “Our supporters from PADAS are incredibly humble about the fundraising they’ve taken on for us, but since 2015 they have raised over £34,000 to support local patients undergoing cancer treatment at Southend Hospital. We are beyond thankful for the incredible support they continue to provide”.
