Noah’s Big Charity’s annual golf day continues its legacy of support for our tiniest patients

Our charity team and Basildon Neonatal colleagues have once again blown away by the incredible work and generosity of Noah’s Big Charity following the success of their 13th annual Golf Day, held at Stock Brook Manor Golf Club on 11 September.
More than 120 golfing friends, colleagues and long-standing supporters of Noah’s Big Charity, came together for a day of fundraising in memory of baby Noah, raising an incredible £22,000 to support babies and families cared for by the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Basildon Hospital.
Founded by Richard and Lydia Hobden in memory of their son Noah, who was born 15 weeks prematurely in 2013 and sadly passed away at 91 days old, Noah’s Big Charity has spent more than a decade supporting the neonatal unit which cares for some of our most vulnerable patients.
Over the years, donations from Noah’s Big Charity have funded a wide range of specialist equipment and training resources, including a bedside stabilisation and resuscitation unit, advanced simulation training aids and a video laryngoscope, all of which have greatly enhanced staff training opportunities and outcomes for babies treated on the unit.
On raising such an incredible sum of money, Richard said: “We were astonished, humbled and immensely proud, not to mention so incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to this success! Knowing that the money raised will continues to fund innovative items for the neonatal unit is the motivator behind everyone joining our golf days.”
We are now working closely with Basildon’s neonatal team to identify the most beneficial equipment that will have the greatest impact on babies and families receiving care in our specialist unit.
Clair Grayston, Head of Fundraising at Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Richard, Lydia and everyone involved in Noah’s Big Charity for their unwavering commitment to supporting neonatal care at Basildon Hospital. They continue to work tirelessly to honour Noah’s memory and make a lasting difference for local families facing some of the most challenging moments of their lives. We look forward to seeing the impact of this latest donation.”
