Friends at Broomfield donate £25,000 to support end of life care at Broomfield Hospital

A generous donation of £25,000 from Friends at Broomfield, supported by a contribution from Chelmsford Round Table, is helping to enhance end-of-life care for patients and families at Broomfield Hospital through Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity’s Dandelion Appeal.

The donation has funded the transformation of five rooms into dedicated end-of-life rooms within the hospital’s care of the elderly and specialist stroke wards, providing more comfortable and welcoming spaces for patients in their final days and for the loved ones spending precious time by their side.

Friends at Broomfield voluntary group has supported Broomfield Hospital, its patients and staff for over 75 years. Their support of the Dandelion Appeal reflects their ongoing commitment to local patients, adding to their long history of funding projects at their local hospital.

The Dandelion Appeal supports end of life care across Basildon, Broomfield and Southend hospitals, funding improvements that help create a more homely atmosphere for patients and families. Enhancements to specific rooms include overnight beds for loved ones, recliner chairs, comforting wall art and thoughtful touches that provide comfort, dignity and compassion during a difficult time.

The Friends were recently welcomed by Debbie Boulden, End of Life Lead Nurse, to see how the funding is helping to transform the experience of patients and families. Debbie shared the vision behind the appeal and highlighted the importance of creating environments where families can make meaningful memories together, supported by compassionate care.
