Dr Feelgood gig puts the spotlight on Southend Hospital’s Radiotherapy Appeal
On Saturday, January 12th, the iconic 70s rock band, Dr Feelgood, took to the stage at the Palace Theatre in Westcliff for a special charity gig in support of Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation’s Spotlight Radiotherapy appeal. The band were supported by Sofrito and together drew in a crowd of over 400 enthusiastic music lovers.
The Spotlight Radiotherapy appeal, which has a goal of raising £600,000, is set to revolutionise the radiotherapy experience for thousands of cancer patients by 2025. The cause sits close the hearts of the band, the band’s drummer Kevin Morris said: “We lost two founding members of Dr Feelgood to cancer, and my youngest son, Joe, sadly died of the disease four years ago. They all received the finest of care and treatment through our excellent NHS, and we are really pleased to help contribute to this excellent appeal.”
The concert has raised over £7,500 so far. The proceeds have provided a substantial boost to the ongoing appeal which recently surpassed the halfway mark of £326,000, demonstrating the community’s support for this crucial initiative.
Emma Wynne-Morgan, Chair of SHCF, expressed gratitude, saying, “We are so thankful to the members of Dr Feelgood; to donate their talent, energy, and time to our appeal has provided such a boost to our appeal target.” She highlighted the invaluable contribution of Dr. Eric Watts in organising the evening, emphasising his unwavering passion to help reach the £600,000 target. “His passion in helping us reach our £600,000 target continues to blow us all away,” she added.
The significance of the charity gig extends beyond the monetary contributions, as it serves as a powerful testament to the impact that music and community can have on such a vital cause.
As the appeal progresses, the charity gig stood as an inspiration to others to join the cause and contribute to the vision of enhancing radiotherapy experiences for cancer patients in the region.
