Beaverbrooks volunteers brighten Basildon Hospital family accommodation

A team of volunteers from our incredible, longstanding supporters at Beaverbrooks Lakeside recently spent a full three days at Basildon hospital helping make family accommodation sparkle ahead of its planned reopening in September.

Giving back their own time whilst their store underwent its own refurbishment, Beaverbrooks’ team members swapped jewellery for paintbrushes and gardening tools to support us with the final touches to Polly’s Pad parent accommodation.

Polly’s Pad, once known as the Ronald McDonald House, offers a home-from-home for families so they can stay close to loved ones receiving treatment at Basildon Hospital, helping to ease the worry and upset of long hospital stays.

The team spent their time with crucial jobs; they cleared outdoor areas, jet washed surfaces, painted fences and walls and planted flowers to transform what had become an unused outdoor space into a brighter and more welcoming environment.

Clair Grayston, Head of Fundraising at Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity, said: “We are incredibly grateful to the team from Beaverbrooks Lakeside for giving their time and energy to support Polly’s Pad. They worked tirelessly throughout their time with us and have transformed the outdoor space making it a much better space for families.

The accommodation provides an important base for families during some of the most challenging times in their lives. Thanks to the team’s hard work, any families who need use the space when it reopens will be welcomed into a brighter, more inviting space”.
