Parents raise over £10,000 for Broomfield Hospital in memory of their daughter

Parents Amie and Aaron Stephens from Maldon have raised over £10,000 for the baby bereavement suite at Broomfield Hospital, which gave the precious time with their daughter, Havana after she died.

Together with the support of friends, family, and colleagues from DSSL, the couple hosted a golf day in Langdon Hills in loving memory of their daughter, who was born in September 2023 at 37 weeks. Following their devastating loss, Amie and Aaron were cared for by the Blossom suite baby bereavement team at Broomfield for three days.

Amie said “I was put in touch with the Blossom suite team ahead of my labour, at such a tragic time I knew that I was in safe and supportive hands before we even arrived at the hospital. The midwives went above and beyond at every step.

“Staying in the suite with Havana meant that we could cherish the small amount of time we had with our daughter; we were able to introduce family to Havana and capture special memories of our time together.

“The team went above and beyond; I can’t imagine having been without them at such a time. Since the loss of Havana, we’ve both met with other bereaved parents and were shocked to find out that not all parents get this level of support in the UK. Ensuring that other parents get access to this level of support is crucial, we’re so pleased that we were able to raise such a significant sum of money to help the unit continue its work.”

Tabitha Stuthridge, Specialist Bereavement Midwife, said “We are extremely grateful that Amie and Aaron chose to support our bereaved families. The generosity of their fundraising will provide memory making and support materials.  We couldn’t offer what we do without the fundraising of others.

“This is also such an amazing legacy for baby Havana and helps to raise awareness of baby loss which in turn helps our families be more supported”.
