It’s estimated one in four of all patients in hospital have some form of dementia. It’s a stressful and heartbreaking condition for patients and their families, with sufferers experiencing confusion, loss of memory and often a changed personality.

These symptoms often worsen once someone with dementia is admitted to the unfamiliar surroundings of a hospital ward. Even with good care from health professionals, patients often still feel confused and bewildered.

We need more volunteers to help these patients, joining a small but established team of dementia befrienders. These compassionate volunteers sit with patients, talking to them about times past, playing games, showing them photos – in other words stimulating mind and memory. New volunteers will receive training and will be mentored for three ward sessions.
